Meena Durairaj Wiki Biography Age Height Weight Family Bio Parents Boyfriend Biodata Net Worth

Personal life

Meena was brought up in Chennai by Tamil father Durairaj and Malayali mother Raj Mallika from Chirakkal Palace-Kannur Dist. She was enrolled in Vidyodhya schools in Chennai. Because of her busy acting schedule, she had to discontinue schooling in the 8th standard, later taking up private coaching and completing the 10th standard in vidyodaya schools in Chennai. She went on to get her master’s in History from the University of Madras through the open university system in 2006.[citation needed] Meena is a trained Bharathanatyam dancer and speaks six languages: Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and English.[citation needed]

Meena married Vidyasagar, a Bangalore-based software engineer, on 12 July 2009 at Arya Vysya Samaj Kalyana Mandapam. The couple later visited Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, Andhra Pradesh. The couple came back to Chennai to hold a reception at Mayor Ramanathan Chettiar Hall, in which all leading southern Indian actors participated. The couple have a daughter, Nainika Vidyasagar (born 1 January 2011), who made her acting debut at the age of 4 in Theri (2016) alongside Vijay.

Career

Child artist

Meena started her career in 1982 as a child artist in the film Nenjangal, featuring Sivaji Ganesan in the lead role, after Ganesan saw her at a birthday party. Meena was still very young at that time. Her mother Rajamallika brought her to A.M. Ratnam’s office for an offer. Even though she looked chubby, they felt she fitted the bill. She has acted in several films along with Dr. Sivaji Ganesan and Rajinikanth as a child artist. Meena acted in Kollywood by appearing as a child artiste alongside Rajinikanth in the movie Anbulla Rajinikanth, in which she acted as a terminally ill child who warms up to Rajinikanth —that became a major pointer in her career growth. After the success of that movie, she became one of the famous child artist in South Indian movies. She says of Ganesan that “I feel extremely proud to have been discovered by the legend”. Since then, she has appeared in over 45 films as a child artiste

Lead female roles

She made her debut in Telugu beside Akkineni Nageswara Rao in Seetharamaiah Gari Manavaralu, where Meena played his granddaughter Seeta. The film was showcased among the Indian panorama section, at the 1991 International Film Festival of India. The film was made under the banner VMC Productions. She won Nandi Award for Best Actress from the Government of Andhra Pradesh for Seetharamaiah Gari Manavaralu.

While she made her debut as a leading lady in Tamil film Oru Pudhiya Kadhai and played heroine roles in more than three dozen films, and also starred in Malayalam and Kannada films, her first role in Malayalam that gained attention was in Sandhwanam directed by Sibi Malayil in 1991. She played Suresh Gopi’s daughter in the film. Its success made her famous, which led to roles with senior Malayalam heroes. Meena has expressed a wish to do more films in Malayalam She says of her transition from being a child star to being a heroine that “Memories as a child are really fabulous and I still cherish them. And it is still more special as that phase is over. Now, I am enjoying my stint as a heroine.”

Meena has acted both as a child and as an adult opposite Rajinikanth. Her first hit with Rajinikanth was Yejaman, where she plays the role of Vaitheeswari, a simple village girl who marries the Superstar Rajinikanth. She always played the quiet, serious woman. In her follow-up movie with Rajini, Veera, Meena again dazzled. Romantic-comedy film. Rajinikanth, Meena and Roja (actress) in lead role. This film was controversial for its climax but went on to become one of the highest-grossing films in 1994. But the film that brought her true recognition and fame was Muthu, one of Rajini’s biggest hits. The movie was a blockbuster all across Japan. Ranganayaki as the talkative, cheeky street theatre actress won the hearts of audience. The film was directed by K. S. Ravikumar and produced by K. Balachander, and became the first Tamil film to be dubbed into Japanese, as Mutu: Odoru Maharaja.[47] [48] The film grossed a record $1.6 million in Japan in 1998 and was responsible for creating a large Japanese fan-base for Rajinikanth and Meena. Following the release of Muthu in Japan and its commercial success, Meena’s popularity rose in Japan.

Meena agreed to appear in an item number as herself in the K. S. Ravi – directed film Shahjahan (film) starring Vijay (actor). She has acted with almost all leading actors in South India.[citation needed] A role in Kadha Parayumbol and in its Tamil and Telugu remakes, Kuselan and Kathanayakudu respectively, were well received by audiences. Meena has expressed regret about Kuselan, after her part was overshadowed.

Manisha Koirala Wiki Biography Age Height Weight Family Bio Parents Boyfriend Biodata Net Worth

Manisha Koirala (born 16 August 1970) is a Nepalese actressknown for her work in Indian cinema, as well as a UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador and social activist. Koirala has primarily worked in Hindi cinema, though she has appeared in several Nepali, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films as well. She is also an accomplished Bharatnatyam and Manipuri dancer. Born to politician Prakash Koirala and Sushma Koirala in the politically prominent Koirala family of Nepal, she made her acting debut in the Nepali filmPheri Bhetaula (1989). A year later, Koirala made her Bollywood debut with the top-grossing drama Saudagar (1991). She went on to establish herself as one of the leading actresses in the 1990s with such mainstream films as 1942: A Love Story (1994), Agni Sakshi (1996), Gupt (1997) and Mann (1999), she was also voted the most beautiful actress in 1990s.[4]Manisha is seen after she was honored as the “Nepal’s Humanitarian Ambassador” at the 3rd Global Official of Dignity Awards held in New York in August 5–7, 2015. Next to her is former US Congresswoman Diane Watson.

Recognised for her acting prowess, Koirala was noted for her performances in films such as Bombay, Akele Hum Akele Tum (both 1995), Khamoshi: The Musical (1996), Dil Se.. (1998), Lajja (2001) and Company (2002). She has won the Filmfare Critics’ Award thrice and has received four nominations for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress so far. Although box-office collections of her films have varied considerably, critics have noted that her niche as an actor remains unharmed irrespective of her commercial potent.Off-screen she is frequented in the media as a “controversy’s child” with her bohemian stance and candid comments often described as “outspoken” and “bold”She was awarded “Nepal’s Humanitarian Ambassador” at the We Care for Humanity’s 3rd Global Officials of Dignity Awards which was held at UN Millennium Hotel in August, 2015.

Manisha Koirala was born in Kathmandu to Prakash and Sushma Koirala. Her grandfather, Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala, was Prime Minister of Nepal during the late 1950s-early 1960s, as were two of her great-uncles, Girija Prasad Koirala and Matrika Prasad Koirala. She studied at VKM, Varanasi until Class X. She stayed with her grandmother in Varanasi during her studies. After passing tenth standard she shifted to the Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan, New Delhi (APS)Her ambition was to be a doctor, but a modelling stint opened a career path into Bollywood

Her brother Siddharth Koirala is also an actor of Hindi cinema and had collaborated with her once in the film Anwar. In 2004, she returned from New York after receiving a diploma in film making. She became a member of an independent documentary filmmaker’s society. She had studied at New York University.[Her first film was Pheri Bhetaula (We Shall Meet Again), a Nepali movie released in early 1989. Her first Hindi movie was Subhash Ghai’s Saudagar in 1991. She starred in a number of films during 1992–1993 before Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s love saga 1942: A Love Story (1994) and Mani Ratnam’s Tamil drama Bombay (1995) came out

Her performance on film Bombay was a milestone on her career which won her the Filmfare Award for Best Tamil Actress and Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance She was seriously noticed by Bollywood after the release of 1942: A Love Story which was a year earlier than the release of Bombay. She also starred in Mansoor Khan’s romantic musical Akele Hum Akele Tum (1995) as the ignored wife who leaves her husband and child to fulfill her singing talent and subsequently becomes a popular star. In 1996 she received positive reviews for her performance in the drama Agni Sakshi,as a battered wife on the run from her mentally ill husband. The film became one of the biggest hits of that year at the Indian box office. Later that year, she acted in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directorial debut, Khamoshi: The Musical where she played the role of Annie, a caring daughter to deaf and mute parents.

A critic from Channel 4 wrote, “Koirala… demonstrates the full range of her acting ability, rather than playing against it as she has had to do in more traditional films. The scene where she shouts at her father through the door, screaming and using sign language even though she knows he can neither see nor hear her, is extremely powerful.” Filmfare magazine later included her performance in the film on its “80 Iconic Performances” list. In 1997, she played the leading role alongside Kajol and Bobby Deol in the thriller Gupt: The Hidden Truth, which was one of the biggest hits that yea

She went on to collaborate once again with acclaimed director Mani Ratnam, and starred in his film Dil Se..(1998) opposite Shah Rukh Khan. Her role received similarly good reviews, and earned her several award nominations including the Filmfare Best Actress Award nomination. Despite performing poorly at the box office in India, the film proved to be a hit overseas So if one has to name her most notable films of the 1990s then it would definitely be these four films: 1942: A Love Story, Bombay, Khamoshi: The Musical and Dil Se, through which she kissed success in Bollywood on the basis of her talent. With no god father in Bollywood and being a Non-Indian, she reached the peak of her career during the 1990s and mostly seen as a beautiful and talented actress.

In 1999, she starred in the successful Kachche Dhaage , which was followed by six more releases, the most notable of them being Indra Kumar’s drama Mann. She played the role of a traffic accident victim in the film, which entered into the top five highest-grossing films of the year. Her performance in the film won her favourable reviews. Film critic M. Ali Ikram wrote about her performance, “If there is respite for Manisha’s innumerable fans of late, this flick is it. We may not care about hits and flops, but it is painful to watch this acting virtuoso in the innumerable side roles she has been seen in of late. Indra Kumar’s decision to cast Manisha here, is a case of perfect casting, and she never lets him or the audience down. This lady is truly the Meena Kumari of her generation. It is great fun watching Manisha and Aamir Khan’s perfect chemistry opposite one another. The film’s climax has both stars permanently molding a spot for themselves in Bollywood history, and it will have you shedding tears by the bucketful.

Early career

Starting off as an unknown girl from Meerut, Yasmin was rejected by atleast three film makers before Ranjit Virk changed her name to Madhuri and signed her up for “Mazloom”. Before the film could take off, Raj Kapoor discovered her at age of 22 and cast her in a lead role in 1985 movie, Ram Teri Ganga Maili with the screen name “Mandakini” opposite his youngest son, Rajiv Kapoor. The movie was a blockbuster, and it earned Mandakini a Filmfare nomination as Best Actress. Her physical assets were exploited to the full in the film which had caused quiet a stir, especially because of two scenes in it: one in which Mandakini was shown bathing under a waterfall wearing only a flimsy white saree through which her breasts and nipples were clearly visible and another in which she was shown breast-feeding a child. This movie made her the ultimate sex-symbol of Hindi screen then. Since then she was offered dare-all bare-all lead roles.

Mandakini acted in a few more successful films, such as Dance Dance with Mithun Chakraborty, Kahan Hai Kanoon with Aditya Pancholi and Pyaar Karke Dekho with Govinda, but never managed to recreate the success of her first movie.

The Dawood connection

In 1994, photographs began circulating of Mandakini in the presence of dreaded gangster Dawood Ibrahim. Rumours had already been doing the rounds that the two were having an affair, and the photos only served to fuel them. One of the theories put forward was that Ibrahim, who was known to have a keen interest in Bollywood and had financed movies, had pressured Rishi Kapoor into casting Mandakini, and she was his mistress. Later, it was alleged that she had moved to Dubai to be with him

Mandakini vehemently denied all rumours linking her to Dawood. She was extremely famous. While she admitted to knowing and being on friendly terms with him, she claimed that they did not know each other personally, let alone be a couple.

Later career

Mandakini’s career suffered a serious setback. She quit movies after Zordaar in 1996 and has lived in Mumbai with her husband and children. Since then, she has made attempts to reinvent herself. She released two pop music albums – No Vacancy and Shambala – neither of which was a success.

Currently, she runs classes in Tibetan yoga and is a follower of the Dalai Lama. With her husband, she runs a centre for Tibetan medicine, which is commonly known as the Tibetan Herbal Centre in the area

Personal life

In 1990, Mandakini married a former Buddhist monk, Dr. Kagyur T. Rinpoche Thakur. Thakur gained fame in childhood as the baby featured in Murphy Radio advertisements in the 1970s and 1980s. They have a son named Rabbil and a daughter Rabze Innaya Thakur.

Mamta Kulkarni Wiki Biography Age Height Weight Family Bio Parents Boyfriend Biodata Net Worth

Mamta Kulkarni is a former Bollywood actress and model. She was part of several commercial successes such as Aashiq Awara (1993), Waqt Hamara Hai (1993), Krantiveer (1994), Karan Arjun (1995), Sabse Bada Khiladi (1995), Baazi (1996), China Gate (1998), Beqabu (1995), and Chhupa Rustam: A Musical Thriller (2001) among others. Her performance in Aashiq Awara (1993) won her the 1994 Filmfare Award for Lux New Face of the Year. The film, which launched Saif Ali Khan, was a superhit. In the blockbuster Karan Arjun (1995), directed by Rakesh Roshan, Kulkarni starred alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. She quit Bollywood after her appearance in the film Kabhie Tum Kabhie Hum.

Career

Kulkarni made her Bollywood debut with the 1992 movie Tirangaa. In 1993, she starred in Aashiq Awara, which won her a Filmfare Award for Lux New Face of the Year. She went on to appear in many popular films such as Waqt Hamara Hai (1993), Krantiveer (1994), Karan Arjun (1995), Sabse Bada Khiladi (1995) and Baazi (1995). She mostly played the leading actor’s love interest in all these films.

Things seemed to change when Rajkumar Santoshi, in whose earlier movie Ghatak: Lethal (1996) she had a cameo appearance in a song, cast her as the female lead in his 1998 movie China Gate, an ambitious remake of Seven Samurai. However, things did not go as planned. Relations between Santoshi and the actress soured, and rumours began circulating that Kulkarni was dropped from the movie, and reinstated only after gangster Chhota Rajan intervened on her behalf When the movie was finally released, it was a huge flop. Furthermore, the only song in the movie, the item number “Chamma Chamma”, was picturised on Urmila Matondkar, even though Kulkarni had built her reputation with such numbers. To add insult to injury, the song turned out to be a chartbuster, greatly increased Matondkar’s popularity and was even used in Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge!.

Angered at the turn of events, Kulkarni lashed out at Santoshi, accusing him of cutting her screen time because she had refused his advancesSantoshi denied all rumours related to the movie, and the matter was given a quiet burial. However, this proved to be the death blow to Kulkarni’s career. She only appeared in a handful of movies after that, and new offers dried up. She quit movies after the 2002 film Kabhie Tum Kabhie Hum. Kulkarni also did few movies in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Malayalam

During her career she was offered films with Mithun Chakraborty, Ajay Devgan, Bobby Deol, Shahrukh Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Khanna, Salman Khan, Govinda, Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Aamir Khan. She turned down many big films such as Sapoot, Angaaray, Mr and Mrs Khiladi, Bandahan, Aunty No.1, Dulhe Raja, Davaa, Shikari, Hogi Pyar Ki Jeet and Kareeb because her role was not substantial.

Controversy

In June 2016, the Thane Police named Kulkarni as one of the accused involved in supplying ephedrine for illicit manufacture of methamphetamine to a ₹2000 crore international drug racket and gangster, intended for trafficking. Kulkarni along with her partner Vicky Goswami and other co-culprits attended a meeting in an international drug ring in Kenya in January 2016.
